So the teak platforms on a few of our rental boats unfortunately got sprayed with some kind of coating.. it wasn't as tough as polyurethane but it definitely wasn't fun to remove..

Scraped as much as I could first with a scraper. Probably could gave gotten more with a pressure washer but didn't want to wait for the wood to dry back put for sanding.

So, after a lot of sanding I'm starting to get them finished. Started with 60grit on the orbital and only stepped it to 80 grit as I think 120 gets a bit slippery when wet.

All in all a simple project. Just elbow grease. I also couldn't talk them into ordering Amazon Golden teak oil so just used what Lowes had. Leaves it a bit stickier than I'd like but I think as soon as they are in the water the tack will dissappear.

My first boat had a teak platform. I read some info to seal the teak with a urethane or similar type wood sealer. Bad idea! it looked good but did not last a season before the sealer started to crack and flake off. 2nd season, took 10X the work to strip the sealer off and restore the teak with teak oil to what it should be.

Yeah, I haven't timed it but I'm going thru two Milwaukee 8.0Ah batteries per deck on just the sanding right now. We have an in-house body/paint guy and he's the one that did them originally. He was skeptical about my plan to say the least. Once he saw the result he said he'd never spray a deck again so I'll call it a win lol

Looks great. I sadly am in the middle of sanding mine. The previous owner had varnished his and I used it last season, watching more that 5 people eat sh#t standing on it from the transom. What did you do to get it off in the cracks of plank to plank?

@Jason6368 so I just sanded everything flat first, keeping the orbital flat the whole time. Then put on a fresh a fresh pad and turned the orbital on edge and keep it 90* in the cracks. Just one pass on each side of the gaps, speed high and little pressure. This should make some pretty sharp lines. Then run a couple passes with the orbital on edge at less angle each pass to round it off. Couple of passes flat again to get it rounded looking.

Then a hook seal pick thru the cracks to peel out any dirt and in this case a lot of the rest of the coating came out as there was none left around for it to bond with. Then a couple passes with some high pressure air took off some more flakes of coating. Didnt get 100% but you'd be hard pressed to see what was left. Will snag some closeups tomorrow.

If you really wanted to crack out you could just number all the pieces and take your deck apart sand all the sides, then put it back together and sand top and bottom.
