Found another random benefit to the center exit point in the last few days... better access to the bilge pump, rudder and various hoses, etc. I just greased the rudder box and recently installed the extra thru-hull ports on the bottom after this mod. More room without the exhaust plumbing consuming the corners of the bilge. It's not why I did it, but its a small surprise benefit.

I know I told you already how much I like this project. I really appreciate the effort of pro level mods like this. Some people are OK with PVC Surfpipes and harbor freight/home Depot suck gates, that give DIY a negative connotation, I'm glad you hold yourself to a higher standard.
Well thanks for your help again. Appreciate the thumbs up. I honestly love all projects that help improve something on the boat.
So much easier to buy from FAE, but I do hope Malibu and others rethink surf exhaust from beginning at least for the big boats that are obviously worthless for slalom skiing. -
You guys are awesome with this stuff
-
thanks! I got some great help from others on wake garage. Was nice
-
That looks incredible. Awesome
-
Haha thanks I think
I’m at lake right now. Exhaust is working awesome. Sure wish someone on wake garage would make surf racks under the bimini. I hear rumors... lol

Dam!, don't know you were doing a center exit!, your crazier then I thought.
in some ways it made it easier to be honest. Gelcoat/glass was hardest, but no different to close one vs two holes. I think I make things harder than they are anyway.

Thanks for posting this. Hadn't seen the batteries in the back like that. Pretty sweet.
Do you have the part number for that volvo penta bracket? (no worries if not) Might look into that next summer/winter.
Also, the air filter is the same right? Just on the end of a silicone elbow to make room for 2nd alternator?
Selfishly it's GREAT to have another 8.1 247 on here.
-
How did you mount the rack to the back wall? Did you have to through bolt it?
-
@CALIV210 - You got it!
Nice rebuild. That's a lot of work when you get to replacing steel. Lots of modern features and it looks brand new! Nice job.
-
That's cool. Thanks for uploading the final pics. You're ready for anything now. Like it.

It can go up first and then down.... as long as gravity still brings the exhaust/water lower than where it started. For that I would use want a flapper and also you need to drill a small hole at the elbow by the transom. For the water that gets trapped. The FAEs have a drain hole at the lowest point outside the boat since they curve up in many cases
This is what I've struggled with on my exhaust... the wedge makes you go up and around... using conventional methods.

As I'm absolutely killing myself on a stainless surf pipe project I'm starting to feel stupid. This stuff looks great. Nice work. I dig the black too! How's the spray on these with a round tube vs oval? No big deal?
-
Nice! I dig it. Does that mean we need to start a furniture category?
i could make one with old surf boards. That’s about all my delaminated, water-soaking Ronix is good for.
-
Yeah we can put in the resources section. Solid idea. Email it to wakegarage (at..) gmail pls

Yes... great project. Thanks for sharing. I have a feeling someday I'll reduce my ballast bags to a bit smaller as well. Might copy you!
-
@Nitrousbird did you run 3.5" inside the boat or 4"? I'm working on exhaust project now... My manifolds exit at 4" and I was debating keeping them 4" to the transom or 3.5". I really don't think it will matter performance wise. Won't need reducers if keep at 4", but mildly easier to create a Y with 3.5 into 4". 8.1 motor... great torque but none of these boats are extreme HP. I'll be going to single surf exhaust out the back.

That makes me want to find a G3 for my VLX! Looks awesome!
Thanks @Dale974. If you get the chance.... I really love this tower. Solid, solid, solid. Still think the Illusions are one of the best all time looking. But this one is really solid and a bit taller.
-
^^^ haha. I'll bet you would

Wow that’s about as simple as it gets. Thanks for sharing. My hand pump is on its last leg and the fittings are all cracked. This looks great ?
-
Sweet! After Cowwboy posted his awesome water cooled amp project I'd been thinking maybe I need something to keep things away from my amps. We tend to cram everything in our boat too, and we live in hot summers. Thanks for sharing!

Rockerswitchpros.com. Again, trying to make it simple, but look factory.
Ok, I'm a terrible admin/moderator... I went to add "Rockerswitchpros" to our Resources page so others could easily find it --- and then realized it was already there, the first one listed. haha

Great project, thanks for sharing it. Also I like the gator lights. lol
Clever use of the head unit space. I don't think I've ever seen that.... perfect! Welcome to Wake Garage !

What he said ^^^

Personally I would not use 5200 although many do. I’d use 4200 in that lineup or something else. I’ve tried to remov something with 5200– doesn’t easily happen while keeping fiberglass intact.
