The other issue is the muffler helps protect the engine from hydrolocking due to water going up the exhaust. like when you're making a large wake then stop and turn off engine. If you have no FAE, no flappers and no muffler that wave could come right into your engine. NO mufflers is safer w/ FAE and Flappers.
